Cyprus Consumer Prices Fall the Least in 4 Months
Consumer prices in Cyprus decreased 0.5 percent year-on-year in November 2019, following a 1.0 percent fall in the previous month. It was the sixth straight month of deflation, though at the softest pace since July, as prices declined less for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.4 percent vs -3.1 percent in October) and transport (-3.1 percent vs -5.0 percent). Meantime, cost slowed for housing & utilities (0.1 percent vs 0.6 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (0.2 percent vs 0.5 percent) while inflation was steady for restaurants & hotels (at 1.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3 percent, after rising 0.4 percent in the previous month.

Consumer prices in the Cyprus dropped 1.0 percent year-on-year in October of 2019, following a 0.9 percent fall in the previous month. It was the fifth straight month of deflation, as prices continued to drop for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-3.1 percent vs -2.3 percent in September) and transport (-5.0 percent vs -4.9 percent) while miscellaneous goods & services cost slowed (0.5 percent vs 0.6 percent). On the other hand, prices rebounded for housing & utilities (0.6 percent vs -0.5 percent) and clothing & footwear (0.1 percent vs -0.5 percent) while restaurants & hotels cost advanced faster (1.2 percent vs 1.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4 percent, after rising 0.6 percent in the previous month.

Consumer prices in Cyprus went down 0.9 percent year-on-year in September 2019, following a 0.7 percent decrease in the previous month. It was the fourth consecutive month of deflation, driven by prices of transport (-4.9 percent vs -2.9 percent in August); food & non-alcoholic beverages (-2.3 percent vs -3.2 percent); housing & utilities (-0.5 percent vs 1.2 percent) and clothing & footwear (-0.5 percent vs 0.4 percent). In addition, inflation slowed for miscellaneous goods & services (0.6 percent vs 0.9 percent); restaurants & hotels (1 percent vs 1.2 percent); furniture & household equipment (0.7 percent vs 1.4 percent) and recreation & culture (0.1 percent vs 0.8 percent). Conversely, prices rebounded for communication (2.7 percent vs -2.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.6 percent, after rising 0.3 percent in the previous month.

Consumer prices in Cyprus fell 0.7 percent year-on-year in August of 2019, following a 0.3 percent decrease in the previous month. It was the third straight month of deflation, as prices continued to drop for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-3.2 percent vs -1.6 percent in July); transport (-2.9 percent vs -3.7 percent); health (-0.5 percent, the same as in July) and communication (-2.2 percent vs -2.3 percent). Meantime, cost slowed for housing & utilities (1.2 percent vs 4.2 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (0.9 percent vs 1.1 percent) and restaurants & hotels (1.2 percent vs 1.5 percent). Meanwhile, clothing & footwear cost rebounded (0.4 percent vs -2.2 percent) while prices advanced faster for furniture & household equipment (1.4 percent vs 1.0 percent) and recreation & culture (0.8 percent vs 0.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after decreasing 1.3 percent in July.

Cyprus Deflation Deepens in July
Consumer prices in Cyprus decreased 0.3% year-on-year in July of 2019, following a 0.2% fall in the previous month. It was the second straight monthly decline, as cost continued to decrease for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.6% from -1% in June); transport (-3.7%, the same as in June); clothing & footwear (-2.2% from -2.9%); health (-0.5% from -0.1%); and communication (-2.3% from -2.9%). Also, prices slowed for housing & utilities (4.2% from 4.8%); restaurant & hotels (1.5% from 1.6%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.1% from 0.8%). On the other hand, cost picked up for furniture & household equipment (1% from 0.2%) and recreation & culture (0.2% from a flat reading) while inflation was steady for miscellaneous goods & services (at 1.1%) and education (at 1.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 1.3%, after a 0.1% gain in June.

Consumer prices in Cyprus declined 0.2 percent year-on-year in June of 2019, following a 0.2 percent rise in the previous month. It was the first month of deflation since April 2018, as cost continued to decline for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.0 percent vs -0.7 percent in May); transport (-3.7 percent vs -1.5 percent) and for clothing & footwear (-2.9 percent vs -2.6 percent). In addition, prices slowed for housing & utilities (4.8 percent vs 5.3 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.1 percent vs 1.5 percent) and restaurants & hotels (1.6 percent vs 1.7 percent). On the other hand, furniture & household equipment cost rebounded (0.2 percent vs -0.6 percent) while inflation was steady for education (at 1.9 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 0.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent, the same pace as in May.
