Czech Inflation Rate Hits 7-Year High
The consumer price inflation in the Czech Republic rose to 3.1 percent year-on-year in November 2019 from 2.7 percent in the previous month, beating market expectations of 2.9 percent. That was the highest rate since October 2012, boosted by prices of housing and utilities (5.0 percent vs 4.9 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.4 percent vs 2.8 percent), recreation and culture (2.2 percent vs 2.0 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.4 percent vs 3.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 0.3 percent, also beating market forecasts of 0.1 percent.

The Czech annual inflation rate came in at 2.7%, unchanged from the previous month and slightly above market expectations of 2.6%. Prices slowed for housing & utilities (4.9% vs 5.0% in September); transport (0.3% vs 0.5%); restaurants & hotels (4.6% vs 4.8%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.9% vs 2.0%); and miscellaneous goods & services (3.3% vs 3.6%). Meantime, cost continued to fall for clothing & footwear (-0.8% vs -1.6%). Meanwhile, inflation quickened food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.8% vs 2.5%) and recreation & culture (2.0% vs 1.5%) and furnishings (1.8% vs 1.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.5 percent, after decreasing 0.6 percent in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Czech Republic decreased to 2.7% in September of 2019 from 2.9% in the previous month, below market expectations of 2.9%. Cost slowed for housing & utilities (5.0% vs 5.2% in August); food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.5% vs 3.9%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.0% vs 2.4%) and recreation & culture (1.5% vs 1.9%) while prices continued to fall for clothing & footwear (-1.6% vs -1.3%) and communication (-1.6% vs -1.4%). On the other hand, transport cost rebounded (0.5% vs -0.3%) while inflation was steady for miscellaneous goods & services (at 3.6%). Additionally, prices advanced faster for furniture & household equipment (1.4% vs 1.2%); hotels & restaurants (4.8% vs 4.4%) and health (3.1% vs 2.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.6 percent, after increasing 0.1 percent in the previous month.

Prices slowed for housing & utilities (5.2 percent vs 5.5 percent in July); food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.9 percent vs 4.1 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (3.6 percent vs 3.9 percent). On the other hand, prices advanced faster for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.4 percent vs 1.2 percent) and recreation & culture (1.9 percent vs 1.7 percent) while transport cost fell at a softer pace (-0.3 percent vs -0.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in August, following a 0.4 percent gain in the previous month.

The inflation rate in the Czech Republic rose to 2.9 percent year-on-year in July 2019 from 2.7 percent in the previous month and above market expectations of 2.8 percent. Upward pressure came from: food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.1 percent vs 2.7 percent in June); recreation and culture (1.7 percent vs 1.4 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (3.9 percent vs 3.8 percent). On the other hand, inflation was unchanged for housing (at 5.5 percent) and slowed for alcoholic beverages, tobacco (1.2 percent vs 1.8 percent), while transport costs continued to fall (-0.7 percent vs -0.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent in July, after a 0.2 percent gain in June.

The annual inflation rate in Czech Republic edged down to 2.7 percent in June of 2019 from 2.9 percent in the previous month, and in line with market expectations. It was the lowest inflation rate since February, as cost slowed for housing & utilities (5.5 percent vs 5.8 percent in May); food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.7 percent vs 2.8 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.8 percent vs 2.3 percent) and for miscellaneous goods & services (3.8 percent vs 4.2 percent). Additionally, transportation cost declined (-0.1 percent vs 0.9 percent). On the other hand, prices advanced faster for recreation & culture (1.4 percent vs 0.8 percent) and restaurants & hotels (4.1 percent vs 3.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent, following a 0.7 percent rise in the previous month.
