Latvia Trade Gap Narrows in September
Latvia's trade deficit decreased to EUR 268.7 million in September 2019 from EUR 360.7 million in the same months of the previous year. Exports rose 2.5 percent year-on-year to EUR 1,087.3 million, boosted by shipments of electrical & electrical equipment (11 percent); alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages (5.2 percent); cereal products (28.4 percent) and land vehicles and parts thereof (11.5 percent). The main export partners were Lithuania (16.9 percent of total sales), Estonia (11.3 percent), Germany (6.8 percent), Sweden (6.4 percent) and Russia (10.5 percent). Imports fell 4.6 percent to EUR 1,356 million, amid lower acquisitions of electrical & electrical equipment (-5.4 percent); mineral fuels, petroleum and petroleum products (-37.8 percent) and machinery and mechanical appliances (-17.2 percent). The main import partners were Lithuania (18.1 percent of total purchases), Germany (10.7 percent), Poland (9 percent), Estonia (7.6 percent) and Russia (6.8 percent).

Latvia Posts Smallest Trade Gap in 6 Months
Latvia's trade deficit narrowed to EUR 177.5 million in August 2019 from EUR 381.8 million in the same month of the previous year. It was the smallest monthly trade deficit since February, as imports tumbled 15.1 percent year-on-year to EUR 1,275.2 million, mainly due to lower acquisitions of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (-42.6 percent); machinery and mechanical appliances (-26.9 percent) and electrical machinery and equipment (-3.1 percent). Meanwhile, exports fell at a softer 2.1 percent to EUR 1,097.7 million, as shipments went down mostly for wood & wood articles (-15.1 percent) and machinery and mechanical appliances (-44.2 percent) but rose for electrical machinery & equipment (5.7 percent).

Latvia Trade Gap Shrinks in July
Latvia’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 340.3 million in July of 2019 from EUR 381.6 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports rose 3.1 percent from a year earlier to EUR 1,039.4 million, mainly due to higher sales of electrical and electrical equipment (+13.3 percent); while imports edged down 0.7 percent to EUR 1,379.7 million, amid lower purchases of machinery and mechanical appliances (-24.5 percent).

Latvia Trade Deficit Narrows 25.1% YoY in June
The trade gap in Latvia decreased to EUR 225.9 million in June of 2019 from EUR 301.6 million in the same month a year earlier. Exports dropped 8.2 percent to EUR 982.9 million, dragged down by lower sales of wood & articles of wood (-9.0 percent); electrical machinery & equipment (-4.7 percent) and machinery & mechanical appliances (-36.2 percent). Main export partners were: Lithuania (17.8 percent of total exports), Estonia (12.5 percent), Germany (6.7 percent) and Sweden (6.6 percent). Imports went down at a faster 11.9 percent to EUR 1,209 million, driven by lower purchases of electrical machinery & equipment (-1.2 percent); vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock (-4.8 percent) and machinery & mechanical appliances (-39.8 percent). The most important import partners were: Lithuania (18.4 percent of total imports), Germany (11.4 percent), Poland (9.4 percent) and Estonia (9.2 percent).

Latvia Trade Gap Widens in May
The trade gap in Latvia widened to EUR 361.7 million in May 2019 from EUR 220.3 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports fell 2.6% year-on-year to EUR 1,068.3 million, mostly due to lower sales of machinery & mechanical appliances and electrical equipment (-47.3%); wood & articles of wood (-7.3%); iron & steel (-17.5%); beverages, spirits & vinegar (-9.2%); and mineral fuels, mineral oils & products of their distillation (-0.1%). Main export partners were: Lithuania (17.6% of total exports), Estonia (11.9%), Germany (7.4 percent) and Sweden (7.3%). Imports rose 8.6% to EUR 1,430 million, driven by higher purchases of vehicles (5.8%); mineral fuels, mineral oils & products of their distillation (21.8%); aircraft, spacecraft and parts thereof (46.4%); pharmaceutical products (11.2%); and plastics & articles thereof (7.1%). The most important import partners were: Lithuania (16.7% of total imports), Germany (10.9%), Poland (8.7%) and Estonia (8.3%).

Latvia Trade Deficit Widens in April
The trade gap in Latvia rose to EUR 290.6 million in April of 2019 from EUR 142.1 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports increased 2.9% to EUR 1,056.5 million, boosted by sales of wood and articles thereof, charcoal (5.1%); electrical appliances and electrical equipment (12.5%); land vehicles, parts thereof (0.2%) and pharmaceutical products (23%). The major export partners were Lithuania (17.6% of total exports), Estonia (12.4%), Sweden (6.8%) and Germany (6.7%). At the same time, imports jumped 15.3% to EUR 1,347 million, mainly due to higher purchases of electrical appliances and electrical equipment (6.7%); mineral fuel, oil and its processing products (8.3%); pharmaceutical products (49.5%) and aircraft, spacecraft and parts thereof (23.5%). By contrast, imports fell for mechanisms and mechanical devices (-2.8%) and land vehicles, parts thereof (-3.2%). Main import partners were Lithuania (17.4% of total imports), Germany (10.7%), Poland (9.3%) and Estonia (8.5%).
