Indonesia Retail Sales Rise the Most in 5 Months
Retail trade in Indonesia increased 3.6 percent year-on-year in October 2019, following a 0.7 percent gain in the previous month. This was the fourth straight month increase in retail sales and the biggest growth since May, supported by sales of food, beverages & tobacco (6.7 percent vs 1.4 percent in September) while those of household equipment continued to rise (4.0 percent vs 11.1 percent). In addition, sales fell softer for: clothing (-8.6 percent vs -9.9 percent), information & communication equipment (-1.6 percent vs -4.1 percent). Meantime, sales dropped further for both fuel (-10.9 percent vs -10.2 percent) and cultural & recreational goods (-10.6 percent vs -9.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up by 1.6 percent in October, the first monthly increase in five months.

Indonesia Retail Sales Rise at Softer Rate
Retail trade in Indonesia increased 0.7 percent year-on-year in September 2019, following a 1.1 percent rise the previous month, supported by sales of food, beverages & tobacco (1.4 percent vs 0.3 percent in August) and household equipment (11.1 percent vs 8.3 percent). Meantime, declines were seen in sales of clothing (-9.9 percent vs 2.8 percent), fuel (-10.2 percent vs -5.9 percent), information & communication equipment (-4.1 percent vs -2.6 percent), and cultural & recreational goods (-9.8 percent vs -10.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased by 1.9 percent in September, the fourth straight month of monthly decline.

Indonesia Retail Sales Growth Eases in August
Retail sales in Indonesia advanced 1.1 percent year-on-year in August 2019, down from a 2.4 percent rise the previous month. Sales growth slowed sharply for both food, beverages & tobacco (0.3 percent vs 2.7 percent in July) and clothing (2.8 percent vs 6.3 percent). In addition, sales fell for fuel (-5.9 percent vs -7.7 percent), communication equipment & information (-2.6 percent vs -5.2 percent), and cultural & recreational goods (-10.8 percent vs -.9 percent). In contrast, household equipment sales grew much faster (8.3 percent vs 4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped by 2.1 percent in August, the third straight month of monthly decline, after a 5.3 percent fall in July.

Indonesia Retail Sales Rebound in July
Retail sales in Indonesia rose 2.4 percent year-on-year in July 2019, reversing a 1.8 percent drop in the previous month, buoyed by sales of food, beverages & tobacco (2.7 percent vs -3.4 percent in June), household equipment (4 percent vs 5.4 percent), and clothing (6.3 percent vs 15.8 percent). In addition, sales fell at a slower rate for fuel (-7.7 percent vs -10.9 percent), communication equipment and information (-5.2 percent vs -8.2 percent), and cultural and recreational goods (-3.9 percent vs -8.8 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped by 5.3 percent in July, after a 6.5 percent fall in June.

Indonesia Retail Sales Fall for First Time in 17 Months
Retail sales in Indonesia declined by 1.8 percent year-on-year in June 2019, reversing from a 7.7 percent growth in the previous month. This was the first decrease in retail since January last year, as sales dropped for food, beverages and tobacco (-3.4 percent vs 6.4 percent in May); fuel (-10.9 percent vs 0.8 percent) and cultural and recreational goods (-8.8 percent vs 1 percent). In addition, sales growth slowed for clothing (15.8 percent vs 43.9 percent); motor vehicles and parts (20.0 percent vs 25.4 percent); and household equipment (5.4 percent vs 7.0 percent). Meanwhile, sales of communications equipment and information dropped at a softer pace (-8.2 percent vs -9.6 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went down 6.5 percent, after increasing 8.9 percent in the previous month.

Indonesia Retail Trade Growth Accelerates to 7.7%
Retail sales in Indonesia increased by 7.7 percent year-on-year in May 2019, accelerating from a 6.7 percent growth in the previous month, mainly due to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began on May 5 this year. Sales rose for: clothing (43.9 percent vs 22.8 percent in April); food, beverages and tobacco (6.4 percent vs 5.8 percent); and fuel (0.8 percent vs -0.1 percent). Meantime, sales growth slowed for cultural and recreational goods (1 percent vs 3.6 percent); motor vehicles and parts (25.4 percent vs 25.8 percent); and household equipment (7.0 percent vs 10.5 percent). On the other hand, sales of communications equipment and information continued to fall (-9.6 percent vs -7.9 percent).
