Philippines Retail Prices Rise 0.6% YoY in July
The retail price index in the Philippines rose by 0.6 percent year-on-year in July 2019, following a 0.4 percent gain in the previous month. There was a faster rise in retail prices of chemicals (0.9 percent vs 0.7 percent in July), while cost of food surged (0.7 percent vs 0.1 percent). In addition, prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials fell less (-3.5 percent vs -3.8 percent). On the other hand , inflation was unchanged for miscellaneous manufactured articles (at 0.5 percent), while prices slowed for crude materials (3.8 percent vs 4.1 percent), manufactured goods (0.7 percent vs 0.8 percent), and machinery and transport equipment (0.5 percent vs 0.7 percent). On a monthly basis, the retail price index increased by 0.2 percent in July, shifting from a 0.8 percent fall in June.

Philippines Retail Price Inflation Eases to Near 4-Year Low
The retail price index in the Philippines rose by 0.4 percent year-on-year in June 2019, the least since September 2015, following a 1.6 percent gain in the previous month. Prices slowed for food (0.1 percent vs 2.3 percent in May), crude materials (4.1 percent vs 4.2 percent), chemicals (0.7 percent vs 1 percent), manufactured goods (0.8 percent vs 1.5 percent), machinery and transport equipment (0.7 percent vs 1 percent), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (0.5 percent vs 0.8 percent). In addition, cost of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials fell 3.8 percent, after increasing 0.8 percent in May. On a monthly basis, the retail price index dropped by 0.8 percent, the first monthly fall since February, following a 0.2 percent increase in May.

The retail price index in the Philippines increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year in May 2019, the same pace as in the previous month. Retail prices were unchanged for chemicals (at 1 percent), manufactured goods (at 1.5 percent), and machinery and transport equipment (at 1 percent). Meantime, prices of both food (2.3 percent vs 1.7 percent in April), and crude materials (4.2 percent vs 4 percent) increased further, while cost eased for beverages and tobacco (3 percent vs 3.1 percent), mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (0.8 percent vs 5.1 percent), and miscellaneous manufactures articles (0.8 percent vs 0.9 percent). On a monthly basis, the retail price index went up by 0.2 percent in May, unchanged from the previous month.

The retail price index in the Philippines increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year in April 2019, following a 1.3 percent gain in the previous month. Cost rose faster for both food (1.7 percent vs 0.8 percent in March); and mineral fuels, lubricants and related material (5.1 percent vs 4.3 percent). On the other hand, prices slowed for beverages and tobacco (3.1 percent vs 3.6 percent); crude materials (4 percent vs 4.4 percent); manufactured goods (1.5 percent vs 1.7 percent); and miscellaneous manufactured articles (0.9 percent vs 1 percent) while inflation was steady for chemicals (at 1 percent, the same as in March); and machinery and transport equipment (at 1 percent). On a monthly basis, the retail price index went up by 0.2 percent in April, after rising 0.1 percent in the prior month.

The retail price index in the Philippines increased by 1.3 percent year-on-year in March 2019, slowing from a 1.4 percent rise in the previous month. It was the smallest increase since March 2016, as cost eased for food (0.8 percent vs 1.1 percent in February); beverages and tobacco (3.6 percent vs 4.8 percent); crude materials (4.4 percent vs 4.9 percent); chemicals (1 percent vs 1.2 percent); manufactured goods (1.7 percent vs 1.8 percent); and machinery and transport equipment (1 percent vs 1.3 percent). Meantime, inflation was steady for miscellaneous manufactured articles (at 1 percent, the same as in February), while prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related material jumped (4.3 percent vs 0.7 percent). On a monthly basis, the retail price index rose by 0.1 percent in March, reversing from a 0.1 percent fall in February.

The retail price index in the Philippines increased by 1.4 percent year-on-year in February 2019, the least since March 2016, following a 2 percent rise in the previous month. Cost rose at a softer rate for most commodity groups: food (1.1 percent vs 2.1 percent in January); beverages and tobacco (4.8 percent vs 6.6 percent); crude materials (4.9 percent vs 5.4 percent); chemicals (1.1 percent vs 1.2 percent); manufactured goods (1.8 percent vs 1.9 percent); machinery and transport equipment (1.3 percent vs 1.6 percent); and miscellaneous manufactured articles (1 percent vs 1.2 percent). In contrast, prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related material rebounded firmly (0.7 percent vs -0.6 percent). On a monthly basis, the retail price index fell 0.1 percent in February, after a 0.4 percent rise in January.
